Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I really enjoy how you included a quote from Finch and Varnes in which they explain how works of poetry can be interpretted much differently depending on the reader. I agree that upon first looking at a ghazal, it may seem slightly confusing or arbitrary due to the independent couplets in the work. Especially in some of the english ghazals, it is more difficult to find the solid scheme of the poem because of translational differences. I did wonder, however, if you had read any of the ghazals included in the chapter "Ghazal: To be Teased into Disunity" by Ahga Shadid Ali, and what you thought about the repetition and refrain in any of these specific works?
